Boston Pack Synopsis
The city of Boston has served as a bastion to werewolves for generations. Over the centuries power has shifted, and though it rested for five generations with the Malik family, control has been ousted from their hereditary grip. Boston’s biggest technology firm, Three Kings – named after the biblical wise men – operates as the organizational front of the pack, now governed by a group of five executives and with the shuck Malakai as its face. With the money generated from this firm and from other investments, Boston has been able to maintain its underground infrastructure built specifically to facilitate werewolves (and other supernaturals).
This infrastructure consists of werewolf-run businesses where certain allowances are made for werewolf employees. Finding a job that allows you to take every full moon off – should you need it—is easily acquirable in Boston. Over the decades they have placed werewolves in important positions – the chief of police, the head of medicine, etc, in order to make blending in and keeping the secret, secret, as manageable as possible.
Werewolves are not above the law and must align to human rules. Hence the implementation of werewolf-run police forces, jails, and planting judges in courthouses. There are also lawyers with the specific job of catering to werewolf-clientele. Bribery and extortion are not rare occurrences, but this is hidden and understated beneath a veneer of lawfulness.
Being part of the Boston pack, given its benefits, is a privilege and not a right. All werewolves and other ‘supernatural’ creatures are expected to give back in some way, shape or form. This could be something as small as working a job at a diner, or something more involved as being part of the law enforcement – in which you would be expected to fabricate lies or stories (if necessary) to keep public suspicion down following a mauling or other abnormal event. Do not be wasted space or you will find the pack’s good will in short supply.
This may seem like a paradise for werewolves, but Boston has her darker side. Power struggles amongst wolves are in their nature, and it is within the pack leader’s nature to keep tabs on his opponents and act before they might. There are stories of men and women all but vanished without a word. There are murders. There is violence – but the tales soon fade from the media (and are often never picked up).
Boston Pack Rules
There is not exactly a werewolf book of laws, but there are unwritten rules that pack members are expected to follow. These rules, while not conveniently jotted down on paper with ink, are understood to be well-known throughout the supernatural channels.
1) Don't kill. Don't maul. Don't decide to let your wolf hang out and wreak havoc. You will be quickly found, killed, and disposed of like yesterday's trash. It is understood that, under extreme circumstances, killing/mauling may be unavoidable. But don't do it for shits and giggles.
2) Do NOT turn someone without their expressed consent. It is in bad taste and in Boston, civility is a must.
3) Compromising the pack in any way shape or form is treason. Loose tongues sink ships, and loose tongues are liable to being cut out of jabbering mouths.
4) Don't be a waste of space. You want to be a junkie that shoots up every hour, on the hour? Fine, just make sure you're a functioning addict. The underground infrastructure of Boston is dependent on its wolves (and other supernatural denizens). Fail to give back to the pack, and expect them to let you lay in the street without lifting a finger to help.
5) Respect your superiors. It is natural for wolves to challenge but Boston has a clear pecking order with the alpha at the top. Be a team player. Know your role, and bend over when asked.
