Appearance: At a glance, Ari is an image of the aloof scholar. It is not a picture he attempts to cultivate so much as one he naturally projects; his expression is often preoccupied, his style of dress suited to a collegiate lifestyle of libraries and museums. Blazers; ties; oxfords; these will forever be in fashion, and Ari wears them both comfortably and well. Dressing down may seem like a foreign concept, but the werewolf is no stranger to jeans and and t-shirts. His casual demeanor and almost lackadaisical warmth makes it easy for him to simply blend.
He is no romantic icon of classical looks; with a strong jaw line and unkempt honey-blond hair, Ari may be considered passably handsome, but it’s his thick-rimmed glasses and the prominent scar that runs across his nose that tend to dominate any assessment of his features. While not particularly a large man, Ari has a square build and broad shoulders, and his figure is kept trim.
Personality: Ari is a solitary man, though it not a life he has lived by choice. In the way of many intellectuals, he is prone to losing himself in his current work or most recent occupation, and has long since ceased being surprised when he finds himself alone upon resurfacing. Distance seems safe enough, if unsatisfying, and with the patient air of a man who has become too familiar with rejection and abuse of trust, Ari often retreats to his studies to avoid greater problems.
This does not mean Ari is particularly unfriendly, or that he avoids or dislikes social interaction; he is an honest, open, and kind-hearted man, but a cloud of lurking melancholy tempers his natural good humor. While he is independent enough to believe that he can simply
make do, he has a pervasive need for company, contact, and understanding – things he is too often lacking. Ari falls upon bitterness and suspicion more often than he would like to admit, a nature that has spilled over from the confusion and fear harbored by his animal half.
He is well-spoken, gentle, and something of a natural worrier; despite the stereotypes of his profession, he is active and would even rank as charismatic were he not shaped by circumstance. That he is now a
werewolf is a concept he hardly understands, nor knows how to handle, and the beast’s emotions are all too easily tangled with his own.
History: The first thirty years of Ari’s life were entirely devoid of a concept like
werewolves, and he would give nearly anything to return to those days.
Raised in a loving and supportive family, despite a relative lack of means, Ari was a successful child; he did well in school, he took naturally to academics. His father passed away when he started college, and his mother took the blow rather hard. She grew ill over time, and when Ari graduated from his Masters program he to returned to Providence to care for her as her health declined. Balancing his own career with her needs proved difficult, and he whittled away at the last of the family’s savings on doctors and healthcare.
In desperation, Ari turned to less reputable measures when his bank account ran dry, and borrowing vast sums from a local loan shark would prove to be his undoing. Despite the money, his mother passed away, and he was left without the means to repay his debts. His moneylender, of course, turned out to be a rogue werewolf with certain
ideas regarding how to extort his dues, and Ari ended up mauled for his troubles. Irrevocably changed, the man fled rather than be tied to the individual who had scarred him, and found himself in Boston. Upon discovering that the city was a hub for supernatural activity, he was granted asylum by Nikolai, though he has little contact with anyone in the pack. He would prefer to forget the whole thing existed.
Left without a method of controlling the animal, Ari has attempted to balance this new life while carving out some slice of normalcy in the city he now reluctantly calls home. Though he has been moderately successful in keeping the peace between his two halves for the past year, his control is slipping as the wolf flexes its growing muscles, and he is reluctant to face this – or find someone to turn to for
help.
